Anniversary

Well on Wednesday the 23rd was our 9th anniversary! I cannot believe time has gone by so fast! I have found the most amazing person to share my life with, I am so thankful for every second I get to spend with this man. He truly makes my heart sing!
We went on vacation for our anniversary. To Pismo Beach, my absolute favorite place in California. I love it there.
Bad news is that I also got a nasty ear infection, thanks to the stupid pool at the hotel. At least it did not start to hurt until we were on our way home, so we got to enjoy the entire trip together. :)

I will leave you with some pictures of our trip. Oh and if you so desire you can click on each picture and it will bring up a HUGE picture.

Dinosaur Caves, Pismo Beach Those rocks aren't white it is all the pelican poop. :(

Me and the hubby! Aww!

No trip to Pismo is complete without the clam chowder bread bowls from Splash Cafe!

Just a teeny tiny segment of the indoor pool at Hearst Castle. Most of the yellow in this picture is 24 carat gold. Even the tiles inside the pool have it too...wow!

Fashion...Well, sorta.

I have never once even pretended that I am fashion savvy. I usually dress for comfort, jeans and tees are my uniform. This post however is about shoes. Sandals to be exact. I love them: Flip flops, slides, wedges. You name them and I'm probably a fan. One thing I don't understand is why on earth do people wear socks with sandals?? Doesn't that just defeat the purpose?
I was out today and while stopped at a red light I seen this guy. A macho big, buff guy, wearing socks with FLIP FLOPS!! Could there be anything worse?! Oh the humanity! Ew.
If you really feel that your feet shouldn't see the light of day, wear sneakers! OR if you really want to go wild wear those sandals that are basically all enclosed except for a few strategically placed air vents. But never, ever wear flip flops and socks.

Thursday 13 Summer Style

Thirteen Things I love about the summer!

1. The Beach! I don't get to go that often but just walking on the boardwalk makes me happy!

2. Fresh fruit! There is nothing better than super juicy watermelon, nectarines and pineapples!

3. Time off of school, this really wasn't the case this year, but usually that is a favorite part of my year. :)

4. Catching up on reading! I absolutely love to read, but I just don't have the time during the school year. Once I get a second you will find me reading constantly, I usually have two or three books going at once. :)

5. Vacation! We don't always take our vacations during the summer but, this year we are. Pismo Beach here we come. I posted some pictures from earlier trips in the previous post so go check those out. It is so beautiful there.

6. Just being outside. Not when it is boiling out, but in the early morning or evening, just makes me happy. Like tonight, the moon was so beautiful I didn't want to come in.

7. Shredding!! Yeah, this is an interesting one. At the end of the school year I usually have a ton of papers that need to be shredded, along with all the bills/checks/credit card crap that we get during the year. Now, I do shred during the year, but it just doesn't always get done in a timely manner so, it builds up. Yuck!

8. My birthday of course!! And my sister's too! Nothing like summer birthdays.

9. Cookouts. This is the only time my hubby cooks! I prep, marinate and chop and he grills his little heart out. It's quite nice.

10. Air conditioning. 'nuff said

11. Going to the park to feed the ducks and geese.

12. These last two will be things I hate: SUNBURNS

13. Bug bites!

Pismo

Next week my wonderful hubby and I are off to Pismo Beach again! I am so excited, I absolutely love this place. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, it has a small town feel...I adore it. Here are some pics from our previous trips. What's not to love?!

Fun!

I had such a wonderful birthday! My hubby has to be the sweetest man in the world! He bought me a cake a few days earlier so I could enjoy it, throughly. Today, we went out to dinner, Red Lobster, and went running around the mall for a few hours. I just love that my birthday is always untraditional. Growing up it was the same thing every year, don't get me wrong I LOVED the tradition, but now that I'm an adult it is fun to do something new every year. We went to Vegas one year, Pismo Beach another, Go-Kart racing, Mini Golf at this amazing course that had waterfalls and all kinds of great obstacles, and many more, it is always a blast. Thank you hubby!!
One thing that I thought was funny is that we went to the mall because they were having a going out of business sale at Linen & Things. I have never been there before so I didn't know what to expect. Well, I could understand why they were going out of business. I couldn't believe the prices! They were all marked down 30%, but they were charging $12-$20 for cheap looking toothbrush holders!?! What?! The thing that made me laugh was that there were shower curtain hooks, plastic ones. They had this little sticker on it saying they were $4.99, with 30% markdown, making it about $3.50. Well, that little sticker was an older one, so they put a black slash mark through the price and put a new one the other side saying $12.99! So, that's how they make money?? Raising the price before the going out of business sale. Idiots. Needless to say I didn't buy anything from there. I did go to Ross and found a really pretty gold/tan material shower curtain for only $7! Whoot!

Surprise!

It's not my birthday, yet. My darling hubby surprised me with a cake yesterday. We 'have plans' for Sunday (I have no idea what they are yet) and he wanted to make sure I had a cake to enjoy too! He is such a sweetie! The cake is from Portos Bakery, in Glendale. My favorite place to buy any kind of sweets! The cake was so, so good. Chocolate, chocolate, CHOCOLATE! YUM!!

Yes, the lady misspelled my name. The hubby didn't notice till we opened it at home. Oh well, it was just one 'N.'

It' on fire!!

This my friends is a solid chocolate hand sculpted rose. It was very, very good. ;)

My Oldest Friend (Sunday Scribblings)

It is 3:30pm and we would be jumping off of the bus. We would run to her house (it was closer) slamming the door and running past her mom we would fly into her bedroom oasis to sit and watch after school cartoons: Beetlejuice, Ducktales and Tiny Toons were our favorites. Sometime before Beetlejuice was over I would call my mom to let her know I was ‘home’ and would be up as soon as the cartoons were over.

I was in the 4th grade when Brandy moved into my neighborhood and we became best friends almost immediately. She was a year older, beautiful, teased her hair, wore makeup, shaved her legs and she was my best friend.

We got into lots of trouble in those few years her and her family lived in my neighborhood; we got caught skipping school, smoking and many other things. But we always remained true to each other, we would never sell the other out, even if it meant a lighter sentence for the other. Even though we were so young and had many friends come in and out of our lives we were always friends. She moved around a lot so we didn’t get to spend much time together after she left my little neighborhood, but we always talked.

To this day it is still true, we have lost contact with each other more times than we can count, but we always manage to find each other and are able to pick up where we left off, like nothing ever changed. She is my oldest friend, a friend I know I will have when I’m 80.

Thursday Thirteen

Since I will turn 28 on the 13th, here are a list of my favorite birthdays, gifts or birthday parties.

1. I'll start at early one: 1987, my 7th birthday. I had a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs birthday cake. It was my favorite. It had little plastic figurines of all the dwarfs and Snow (which my mum still has), each of them had something, a wheelbarrow, rake or shovels. It had a little plastic bridge that went over blue icing water.

2. 1995, my 15th birthday. It was held in the local park of my hometown. This was probably the first time all of my friends could make it and we had such a good time. We went on the paddle boats, played mini golf...my mom made really great gift bags for all my girlfriends. Great time!

3. 1999, my 19th birthday. This one was a combo party. It was my birthday, going away, and congratulations on getting married all wrapped up in to one day. Maybe I should explain a little: I was long distance dating this great guy from L.A. and well, we decided it was the right time to get married so, the very next day I was leaving my little hometown for the dazzle of L.A. and ten short days later I was a married woman. None of my family members seen me get hitched, so this party was really beautiful. We had super extended family there, it was also held at the local park. We had the food catered and it just turned out wonderful.

4. 2001, my 21st birthday: My friend from my hometown came out and spent a few weeks with me, so on my birthday we went to a bar (of course) my first one I went to legally. Good times were had by all.

5. I think this was my 24 or 25th birthday. My hubby and I went to Vegas for the first time and went to this little diner called Roxy's which has singers dressed as if they were in the 60s and they sing to you....well he told them it was my birthday and they pulled me to the middle of the floor and sang to me. I was so embarrassed at the time and was shooting the evil eye at my hubby, but now that I look back I wouldn't have changed it for anything.

6. Almost Every year from the time I was about 6 or so I would get ice cream cakes from Dairy Queen, unless they were outdoor parties. If you have never had one, let me just tell you they beat baskin robbins by a mile. They are so good!

7. The menu hardly varied for any of my parties we would have: Sloppy Joes or hamburgers/hotdogs if we had a cookout, cake and ice cream, or just ice cream cake, unlimited chips and soda... You know, the healthy stuff!

8. One year my mom bought me a store bought cake and I kid you not, it had 3 inches of icing on it. It was in the shape of a unicorn, but damn 3 inches???!!!

9. I always loved to rip open my gifts. I never (still don't) understand why people want to lift the tape....then fold it up and then look at the gift.

10. My cousins always had parties at Burger King. I am so thankful that I didn't. My big family parties were always better. :)

11. One year, 1989 my sister who also shares the same birth month, was living in Tennessee and wouldn't be home for her birthday. So since we were already having a party for me we just made signs and got everyone together to take pictures to celebrate her too. It made me feel so good!

12. I was sad on my 20th birthday. That was the first year I wasn't at home for my birthday. My mom would always wake me up and sing happy birthday to me and give me a little present to start the day. It always made me feel so special.

13. My family still calls me every year and sings to me. EVERYONE, even my brother, Mr. Macho! :) I have a few saved on the answering machine, just to listen to every once in a while. :)

Once upon a time...

I was just reminiscing with my mom about this story and I thought I would share it here. I was a rotten kid. :)
In a far, far away land. Ok, maybe not that far away, about 3,000 miles from where I now call home. I had a neighbor that kept two ducks, a boy and a girl, in a tiny pen. She fed them regularly and they laid eggs frequently, but she never, ever let them out of the pen. I was the only kid in the neighborhood so I used to go visit (bother) the older neighbors, frequently. So, one day my cousin came to visit and I had the bright idea for us to go and ask this elderly lady for some of her duck eggs, mind you, I was about seven years old. She wasn't home and her husband didn't like to fool around with the animals so he told us to wait until she got back from the store. Well, in my seven year old mind, which was a bit twisted, I thought well if he didn't want to give me the eggs I would get them myself. Let me just state for the record, these ducks were mean, you probably would be too if you were locked up in a tiny pen all day and all night. I tried to reach my hand in to get and egg, but they started hissing and trying to peck me. I got mad so I pushed my fingers through the wire mesh and broke all three of the eggs. I told my cousin not to tell and off we went to terrorize the neighborhood.
Later that night my mom got a call from my Aunt who told her that my cousin was so upset about what happened (in other words, she told on me) so of course I got 'grounded,' and wasn't allowed to go to my neighbors house again.

Sunday Scribblings #1

My chance meeting came about two years ago when I went on a trip back to my hometown. My husband and I just got off of the plane, rented a car and drove the 30 minutes to the tiny dot on the map from which I was raised. I stopped in the local Walmart to pick up all the necessities that are forbidden on planes, just as I was to plop down my super sized bottle of shampoo and conditioner I look over and it was my childhood best friend. We left things on rocky terms when I left home for the sparkle and dazzle of Los Angeles and I was so nervous to talk to her. I said hell, she had a baby in tow, which happened to be hers, information which I was not privy to... So many emotions came up: Guilt, because this girl was a true best friend, we did everything together, knew everything about each other and I honestly felt we would have a friendship that lasted the test of time. Anger, because I did not even know she was pregnant let alone with a 8 month old. Happiness, because just seeing her makes me feel good. Awkwardness, where do you begin after 8 years? I knew that we would never have a friendship again. It was over, we have grown apart... I still haven't heard anything from her and I think I have come to terms with that now. I still think of her often, but she was a great part of my life, I'll never forget her.

Fun Stuff

I just finished taking a chemical dependency class and I found this one funny...

That was too cute so I had to post it...awww.

What has been going on....

  • I am almost finished with my summer classes, yay! I have one class left on Thursday, so tomorrow is devoted to writing papers that I have procrastinated for an entire month.
  • I am feeling a bit sick after eating two tacos from my neighborhood taco stand.
  • I am learning who my true friends are. This was not an easy thing to do. I was really close to one girl, but I seriously think she is Bipolar. Not an easy thing to have/deal with/ be around. It literally sucked all of my energy. I feel bad, but I cannot help her if she does not take care of herself.
  • I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I literally thought I was never going to see the end of this program. BUT I registered for classes today and after this semester I only have 2 classes left to take! WHOOT!
  • I'm getting ready to pimp my site out. This weekend, I will take part in everything and anything to get some pals back! Thank you loyal Frigga for following me to this neck of the woods, it has been great! :)
